Modern design melds with vintage touches at Torali’s bar, part of a major hotel redesign from San Francisco-based firm BAMO.

Putting on the Ritz

No matter how much time you spend at Torali Italian-Steak, you might leave wanting more. Whether it’s luxuriating in a lounge built for a modern-day Don Draper or sipping the smooth cocktails he’d be certain to order from the bar, Torali delivers for those longing for finer things from simpler times. After opening last summer on the 12th floor of The Ritz-Carlton Chicago, the restaurant has flirted with perfection with several of its dishes—the mushroom bisque, for example, is a velvety pool of earthy umami-packed goodness. But the drink menu, newly refreshed for spring, provides just as many memorable offerings. For a sweet, slow burn, try the Lion’s Tale ($17), made with Maker’s Mark, St. Elizabeth allspice liqueur and lemon. Not to be outdone, the wine list features a Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino, rarely served by the glass but available here for $40. Sip away—and savor the moment. 160 E.
